AGE and DEPRESSION. THERAPY.
Depression represents one of the major problems as the years go.
Depression is a syndrome, a series of symptoms, involving physiological, emotional and cognitive transitions.
Depression Symptoms.
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Associations established a list of symptoms for depression breakdowns:
- change in food appetite;
- modifications in body weight;
- sleep disturbances;
- body constrictions and delayed kinetic responses;
- fatigue and lack of energy;
- anxious, fearful, tense and nervous states;
- memory and concentrations disorders;
- dislike, indifference and aversion for any kind of activity;
- tendency for guilt;
- thought or attempt of suicide;
The presence of 5 symptoms (of 10) shows depression.
Risk factors for Depression.
Principles that increase the occurrence of depression in the elderly include: being female, unmarried (especially if widowed); stressful and solicitant life events; deficit of supportive social network. Having physical conditions like Stroke, Hypertension, Atrial Fibrillation, Diabetes, Cancer or Dementia further aggravates the risk of clinical depression.
The risk factors often see in seniors are:
- certain medicines or combination of drug;
- other disorders and illnesses;
- social disconnection and living alone;

Age, Illnesses and Depression
Depression in seniors is not considerably different from adult’s depressive state.
But, in the late-life it coexists with multiple medical illnesses and disabilities. The somatic age collapses (cardiovascular, digestive, respiratory, weight loss) set a lot of inquiries for establishing a correct analysis and diagnosis.
Any depressive symptom may undermine life’s quality and life itself. So, a therapy is mandatory.
In 1945, Dr. Aslan started to treat with Procaine injections the patients with painful Arthritis, for healing their joints pain. Many patients showed an improved memory status, less depression, increased energy and a general well-being condition.

What patients should know about Gerovital H3.
Administration. Restrictions. Therapy Management.
Gerovital H3 is part of the class of drugs that act upon the body, especially in depression, stress and overworking circumstances.
Also, its properties recommend the drug for treating the degenerative diseases (Rheumatism, Arthritis, Parkinson, Arteriosclerosis).
Gerovital H3 is suitable beginning at 40, for holding back and for reversing the aging processes in the human body.
The therapy has both prophylactic and curative directions.
It can be used as a single drug therapy or it can be associated with other medicines.
Gerovital H3 Administration:
The drug must be administrated 2 hours after the meals (either oral or IM-intramuscular injection). After injection, a 10-15 minutes rest is required.
Gerovital H3 Restrictions:
Not recommended in the following cases: severe hepatic conditions; renal failure; severe arterial high blood pressure; febrile states.
It should not be combined with Physostigmine (Eserine), Prostigmin and Sulphamides.
*Physostigmine (Eserine) is a crystalline alkaloid used in medicine as a miotic and cholinergic agent and to enhance memory in patients with Alzheimer's disease.
*Prostigmin is a parasympathetic drug that acts as a reversible inhibitor to acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme which breaks down acetylcholine (ACh) in cholinergic nerve endings. It is used clinically to treat Myasthenia Gravis, Paralytic Ileus and Urine Retention.
*It is advisable not to apply Gerovital H3 in the same time with Sulphamides, because the interaction in the bacterial metabolism.
Consult your physician, especially:
- if you suffer from any disease;
- if you have any form of allergy;
- if you are self-medicating;
Take an allergy test before you start an injection cure.
First, take an ID intradermal injection (1 ml). Also, an IM intramuscular test (2ml).
These tests should reveal any possible allergy to Procaine.
The therapy with Gerovital H3 should be conducted under medical examination, especially at the beginning, in the first sequences of injections. The physician is able to determine an appropriate dose and eventually change, reduce or cancel other medication previously taken.
